On Wednesday, Vietnamese budget carrier VietJet Air said it will offer 150,000 free tickets in late October … to celebrate the launch of two new air routes — Kaohsiung to Ho Chi Minh City and Taipei to Hanoi.

The Kaohsiung-Ho Chi Minh City route will be launched on December 12, while the Taipei-Hanoi route will operate on a daily basis from October 30.

To celebrate the new services, VietJet Air plans to give away 150,000 promotional tickets — for all of its international routes —  on its official website from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on October 25, 26 and 27.

Kaohsiung has the second largest Vietnamese immigrant population of any city in Taiwan, local officials noted … and is an important tourist gateway in southern Taiwan with convenient sea, land and air transport links.

Kaohsiung Deputy Mayor Shih Che (史哲) told CNA that he hopes more air routes between Kaohsiung and Vietnam can be launched to create more opportunities and boost tourism between the two countries.
