Um … thanks?

Authorities in China’s Xiamen City agreed Tuesday to offer assistance with cleanup work … five days after a cargo ship drifted from Xiamen to the just-a-kilometer-away-but-Taiwan-controlled-island of Kinmen during a recent typhoon.

The grounded ship has begun to leak oil.

Xiamen’s Marine Safety Administration confirmed it will send vessels to help deal with the ‘Gang Tai Tai Zhou’ … a 40,000-ton cargo ship that ran aground off the coast of Kinmen after breaking loose from its mooring.

The vessel drifted before running aground off the coast of Gugang Village, Kinmen … as Typhon Meranti passed through the region on September 15, 2016.

Because of strong currents and waves, divers have not been able to determine the extent of damage to the ship’s hull … and repair work can be only conducted at low tide, say officials.

Workers have been cleaning oil from rocks along the beach, a task that is expected to be completed in two days.
