Red Brick Daily
You may have noticed a few new parks cropping up around K-Town. Over the last decade or so, the city has embarked on a flood prevention scheme that uses basins with outflow tunnels as parks. New “flood parks” recently opened in Gushan, Fongshan, and Gangshan.
KHH doesn’t see that much rain, but when it rains, it pours…like tropical downPOURS.
With these additional anti-flooding catchments in place, we could soon not have to worry much about flooding anywhere in the major downtown or heavily populated areas of Kaohsiung.
Outer districts are still affected, however, and the city says more such “flood parks” are coming.
Enjoy them in on sunny days, but remeber … when it rains, it becomes a pond, not a park!
