For those who live anywhere near the Kaohsiung Art Museum area, the Gushan Public Swimming Pool has been a great outdoor swim spot for decades.

Open all year round, the pool opened to the public in April 1987.

But, we are both sad and pleased to announce that the pool is closed as of August 22, 2016, for renovations that will take until April 2017.

The Kaohsiung City Government promises the newly-renovated pool will be substantially more attractive and safe.

In the meantime, those on the west side of the city can check out the Zuoying Public Pool near Lotus Lake …

Or the Nantzu Public Pool, located not too far from the Nanzi TRA Station.

There are, of course, other pools scattered around the city, but Gushan was the only public one we found that had a 4+ star Google review … there are also, of course, plenty of private and or indoor options as well.

Thanks for the memories and we’ll be back next year, Gushan!
