A teacher in Kaohsiung is making international news for dumping powerpoint and getting old-school with chalk and a blackboard. Of course, it helps if you can actually draw … and this guy CAN.

Illustration, Anatomy of Arts and Painting Professor Chuan-Bin Chung has spent the last three years teaching at Shu-Te University in Kaohsiung’s Yenchao District.

Chuan explained why he prefers to draw intricately accurate images of human anatomy on a chalkboard instead of using a computer or slideshow … and why he makes his students for the same.“

“Yes, we have a textbook,” Chuan told the media. “But we don’t read it, we draw it. Students majoring in this area … cannot learn by just ‘reading’ the pictures on books. Instead, we learn while drawing something. In my classes, students have to draw what I am demonstrating on the chalkboard.”
