Typhoon Morakot — the deadliest storm in Taiwan’s history — killed close to 700 in 2009.
Linbian Township in southern Taiwan’s Pingtung County was hit hard. It’s taken a while, but the area is looking up … literally, with a 495-hectare solar plot trained on the sun.
The rural township has, according to local authorities, transformed itself into a “hub of renewable energy and smart grid development.”
Linbian won a 2nd place award at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s Energy Smart Communities Initiative Best Practices Awards Program in 2015 after winning over the judges with its smart micro-grid demonstration park.
South Taiwan gets a lot of sun … hopefully, many more such solar farms will start sprouting up all across the region.
