With an increasing number of local people becoming interested in marijuana, folks are stepping in to fill the whole ‘supply and demand’ thing … and it can be profitable, with the price of one gram of decent quality cannabis flower reportedly costing at least NT$1,000 these days.

Cops have begun discovering fields in rural places — esp. in the back hills of Tainan and Chiayi, which have many mountains with many small farms.

Two suspects were the latest to be snared, after a tip-off.

The Taipei Times Reports:

“Law enforcement agencies on Friday raided a farm in rural Tainan, seizing cannabis plants worth an estimated NT$90 million (US$2.96 million) and detaining two men.

The two suspects, 28-year-old Hsu Po-han (許柏漢) and 30-year-old Tai Chun-te (戴俊德), have prior convictions for drug possession … Hsu and Tai rented several plots of land on a farm in Tainan’s Guantian District (官田) to grow cannabis, some of which was for their personal use, but the majority was to be sold, prosecutors said.”

If convicted, the men face anywhere from seven years to over a decade behind bars.
