Taipei City has raised the bar for “shared transport options” … with a moped-sharing system that provides 200 electrical motorcycles in the Daan, Xinyi and Zhongzheng districts of the capital city.

To use it, riders need to download a mobile app called “WeMo App.”

After you find the nearest “WeMo Scooter” to your location, reserve it … go get it … ride it … and then pay through the app.

The system began a three- to six-month trial run on Friday.

The trial rate is NT$25 for the first 10 minutes … and then NT$2.5 per minute thereafter.

In what might be one of the coolest features … riders can park the scooter at any public motorcycle parking spot … and don’t have to worry about finding a “station” like one does with city bicycles.

The app is available on Android devices. An Apple version is planned by the end of the year.
